Haslev - town in the midst of nature
Deep in the forests near Haslev lies Peder Oxe’s Gisselfeld Castle that dates back to the 16th century. It was here that Hans Christian Andersen was inspired to the tale of “The Ugly Duckling”.
From Gisselfeld Castle small winding roads lead through the most beautiful scenery to Bregentved Castle where the fairytale "The ugly Duckling" was written. Both castle grounds are open to the public. Gisselfeld Park is recognized as one of the most beautiful gardens in Europe because of its many botanical rarities. At “Paradehuset” which is Gisselfeld’s orangerie or wintergarden, you can enjoy the many historical plants and take in the intoxicating scent of the approx. 50 different types of pelargonia.
