It was from the shores of Faxe that Rollo the Viking set out and later founded Normandy, France. Svend Poulsen, known as ‘Gøngehøvdingen’ (the Chief of Gjønge) also began his actions around South Sealand, when he waged guerrilla war against the occupying Swedish forces in 1658. One of the mementos of the occupying Swedish forces is the beautiful peninsula ’Feddet’, where the Swedes burnt down the forest and left a protected moor area at the tip of the peninsula which you can experience today. A few years ago, Jomfruens Egede Manor was the setting of a wonderful event.

Shortly before, another happy event had taken place at the neighbouring Lystrup Manor where Crown Princess Mary celebrated her hen night.
